Lesson 035 · Step 1 of 4Streak 00

Combining sets

x∈A∪Bx \in A \cup B means x∈Ax \in A or x∈Bx \in B. x∈A∩Bx \in A \cap B means both.

x∈Acx \in A^{c} means x∉Ax \notin A. The difference A∖BA \setminus B holds the elements of A that are not in B.

To prove a statement about a combined set, unpack membership with these definitions.
