The contrapositive of $P \Rightarrow Q$ is $\lnot Q \Rightarrow \lnot P$. It says exactly the same thing, so proving one proves the other.

The converse of $P \Rightarrow Q$ is $Q \Rightarrow P$. That is a different claim, and it can be false when the original is true.
